沿革(history)

為因應世界潮流、國家發展,以及培育生技人才,本校申請設立生物科技系暨研究所,並奉教育部核准於九十三學年度正式招收四技及碩士班學生。

 

History
The graduate school is established in mid 2003. The first batch students for graduate programs will be recruited in 2004.

Education Objectives
The main aim of this graduate school is to provide students with the necessary training in both theory and practical knowledge in various aspects of biotechnology require by the industry.

Educational System
A two year Master degree(M.Sc.) in Biotechnology.

Special Features
The graduate school focuses on teaching excellence and providing up-to-date practical skills tailored to the needs of the industry and emphasizes on establishing partnership with other research institution and the industry to carry out teaching, research and student internships.

Faculty
The main faculty are made up of members with expertise in food, natural product, vaccine development, pharmaceutical and environmental biotechnology.

Facilities & Instruments
Research facilities are available in the Chinese Herbal Medicine and Natural Product Research Center, Bioresource Utilization Center, Experimental Animal Center and Heavy Instrumental Center. Major equipments comprise Automatic Microplate System, Protein Sequenater, PCR, ELISA, Molecular Luminescence Spectrometer, NMR, GC-MS, HPLC, IR and others.

Curriculum
The core courses consist food biotechnology, natural product biotechnology, molecular cell biology, molecular gene cloning and expression, pharmaceutical biotechnology, biotechnological research methods, bioindustry and statistics.

Career Prospective
The field of biotechnology offers a wide variety of career opportunities for graduates. Students can select to choose to work in either the public or private sectors in the area of bioindustry (comprising medical, agricultural and environmental biotechnological industries). In addition, students can also pursue Ph.D. degree in the relevant fields at the local or overseas universities.
